Going down to the bottom of a giant hole filled with gruesome monsters has never sounded so tempting. Kadokawa finally spilled the beans and confirmed that the next film in the franchise, Made in Abyss (Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi), will hit theaters in Japan on October 23. And to prepare the ground, they threw us a new trailer and a promotional image that, faithful to the twisted custom of this saga, hides unspeakable horrors behind absurdly beautiful landscapes.

The plot of this new cinematic installment will resume the journey of Riko and her inseparable robotic companion Reg into the unexplored depths of the abyss. After all the psychological damage that the second season of the series and previous films like Dawn of the Deep Soul left us, the production committee knows perfectly well what keys to touch to keep us on the edge of our seats. The promotional trailer gives us a good taste of the new biological aberrations and death traps that the group will have to overcome if they want to continue going down in one piece, all wrapped up in that level of exquisite animation to which we are already accustomed.

About Made in Abyss

For those who still have their souls intact and do not know this franchise, the manga created by mangaka Akihito Tsukushi has been published mercilessly since 2012. The entire universe of the work revolves around a colossal crater known simply as the Abyss, the last unexplored place on the planet. This chasm is filled with priceless relics left behind by past civilizations, but it also boasts a lethal curse that physically and mentally shatters anyone who attempts to return to the surface.

In the midst of this hostile scenario we closely follow Riko, a little orphan completely obsessed with finding her mother, who is a living legend who disappeared in the deepest areas of the crater. Teaming up with Reg, a mysterious robot boy with no memories but built-in weapons, they embark on a one-way expedition where childlike innocence constantly collides with the extreme brutality of survival.
