Forget
about the typical adorable nekomimi who only say
"nya" and eat fish. Here things get a little more realistic and a lot
dirtier. This Thursday we got a tremendous update: the animated
adaptation of Chainsmoker Cat (Yani Neko) has just
given us a new promotional image and officially confirmed that
the series will invade television on July 2. Ready to watch a cat
girl deal with bills payable and nicotine withdrawal?
The
voices behind this chaotic apartment complex
A comedy of
this style would not work without voices that know how to handle sarcasm and
desperate screams. And boy did they put together a crazy cast. The production
team released us with a list of six additional talents who join the protagonist
to bring this group of misfits to life in their everyday lives. Check
out who will be in the recording booth:
- Yuko
Natsuyoshi as Yani Neko
Sasha
Necron in The Misfit of Demon King Academy and Makoto in In
the Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki.
- Shiori
Izawa as Al Neko
Nanachi
in Made in Abyss and Pochita in Chainsaw Man.
- Tetsu
Inada as the Landlord
Endeavor
in My Hero Academia and Sajin Komamura in Bleach.
- Misato Matsuoka as Yaku Neko and Yurie
Funato as Hame Neko.
Tsubame
Mizusaki in Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! and Umika Konohoshi
in Stardust Telepath, respectively.
A manga
that smells of ashtray and success
All this
media noise has a very clear origin. The Nyan Nyan Factory collective
created an editorial monster within the pages of Young Magazine.
The irreverence of the story quickly connected with young audiences, to the
point that Kodansha's manga already has 11 compilation volumes
for sale. Bringing that physical, over-the-top humor to the screen is no easy
task, but Bibury Animation Studio took up the challenge with
Taku Kimura in the director's chair. He is joined by Takashi Aoshima in the
scripts and Keiichi Suzuki putting together the soundtrack. Pure people with
experience to ensure that laughter is not lacking in this premiere in
July.
What is
this madness with black lungs about?
The premise
is a direct blow to modern maturity. We enter a world where humans, demihumans
and cat girls coexist as if nothing happened. There we meet Yani, a feline who
has an uncontrollable smoking habit. Imagine a disastrous
apartment, filled with mountains of garbage, empty cans, and bursting
ashtrays. Every time Yani firmly sets out to quit smoking in order to get her
life in order, she fails miserably within two minutes. This light
comedy is basically watching her try to survive the day to day while
dealing with her landlord, a manga author (the only human in the building) and
her neighbors who have worse habits than her (hello, Al Neko and his
drunkenness).
