Editorial Shogakukan announced that Ai Kozaki's Asahinagu manga will end with the thirty-fourth compilation volume.
Kozaki began publishing the manga in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine in 2011. The publisher will publish the thirty-third compilation volume on May 29. The author is the younger sister of Yuusuke Kozaki who is the character designer for the Fire Emblem: Awakening series.
The Asahinagu manga inspired a theatrical performance that was presented in June 2017, as well as a live-action film released in theaters in Japan in September 2017.
Synopsis
The story centers on Asahi Toujima, a freshman high school student at Futatsuzaka Academy. She has been in the art club since high school, but decides to start practicing the "naginata" (a kind of Japanese halberd), under the idea that people who are not talented in sports have more opportunities.
In conjunction with her beloved senpai Maharu Miyaji, her kendo-experienced partner Shouko Yasomura, and a girl with a complex for her height named Sakura Konno, Asahi will form a new group called “Naginata Girls”.
