The film will be released in theaters in Japan on August 14. Watanabe began publishing the manga in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shonen Champion magazine in 2008. The publisher published the sixty-fifth (65th) compilation volume on February 7. As a whole, the manga has accumulated more than 25 million copies in circulation.
The play inspired an anime adaptation released in 2013, followed by a second season in 2014 and a third in January 2017. Finally, the fourth season premiered in January 2018. The manga has also inspired several animated films, an OVA. , a live-action series for television and 14 plays.

- Ryouta Bandou as Shoukichi Naruko, Sakamichi's partner who invites him to the cycling club.
- Ryou Ryuusei as Shingo Kinjou, the capital of the cycling club.
- Shuntarou Yanagi as Yuusuke Makishima, a third-year student.
- Ken Sugawara as Jin Tadokoro, a third-year student known as the "Human Train" for his incredible musculature.
- Mizuki Inoue as Terufumi Sugimoto, a new student at the cycling club.
- Sarutoki Minagawa as Kouji Kanzaki, an original character in the film and father of Miki Kanzaki.
- Ren Nagase, from idol group King & Prince, plays the protagonist Sakamichi Onoda.
- Kentaro Ito as Sakamichi's rival, Shunsuke Imaizumi.
- Kanna Hashimoto as the manager of the cycling team, Miki Kanzaki.
- Koichirou Miki is in charge of project management.
Synopsis of Yowamushi Pedal
The original manga story centers on Sakamichi Onoda, an otaku student at Souhoku High School in Chiba Prefecture. His love of anime and games is so much that he is able to travel by bicycle to Tokyo's Akihabara district, back and forth in one day, which is a 90-kilometer journey.
His life changes when his school's cycling team sets eyes on him and eventually ends up enrolling in it.
