Having achieved professional status in high school, Rei Kiriyama is one of the few elite players in the shogi world. Because of this, he faces both the shogi community and his adoptive family. Being a 17-year-old boy living on his own, Rei tends to take very little care of himself, and his reclusive personality excludes him from his schoolmates and other shogi players.
However, shortly after her arrival in Tokyo, Rei meets Akari, Hinata, and Momo Kawamoto, a trio of sisters who live with their grandfather in a traditional wagashi store.
