For its part, The Idolmaster is a multimedia franchise that began with the release of a rhythm and “idol training simulation” video game developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment and released for arcades in 2005. Since then, the franchise has inspired numerous sequel and spin-off games on multiple different consoles, including social media games. The series also includes a variety of other adaptations, including anime, manga, live-action series, concerts, and radio shows. The last video game released in the franchise was The Idolmaster Shiny Colors, released in April 2018.
