GMO Internet, Inc. has listed the registration of the domain "Spy-Family.net" as of February 28, as well as the registration of the Twitter account "@spyfamily_anime". The above has been considered as a direct clue that the manga written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo, SPY x FAMILY, is about to announce its upcoming anime adaptation.
For his part, Tatsuya began publishing the manga through publisher Shueisha's Shonen Jump Plus website in March 2019. The publisher released the fifth compilation volume last September 4, followed by the sixth last December 28 in Japan. The work recently surpassed eight million cumulative copies in circulation.
The work was honored in the 2020 edition of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! listing, in the section of recommendations for male readers in Japan. Since 2020, reliable sources to this site confirmed the production of an anime adaptation, which is scheduled to premiere in Japan in 2022, so this announcement would confirm this information.
Synopsis of SPY x FAMILY
For the agent known as "Twilight," no order is too high if it's for the sake of peace. Operating as Westalis' master spy, Twilight works tirelessly to prevent extremists from unleashing a war with neighboring Ostania. For his latest mission, he must investigate Ostania politician Donovan Desmond by infiltrating his son's school: the prestigious Eden Academy. Thus, the agent faces the most difficult task of his career: getting married, having a child and playing family.
Twilight, or "Loid Forger," quickly adopts the lowly orphan Anya to play the role of a six-year-old daughter and prospective Eden Academy student. As a wife, she meets Yor Briar, a distracted office worker who needs a pretend partner to impress her friends. However, Loid is not the only one with a hidden nature. Yor is actually the lethal assassin "Thorn Princess" and, for her, marrying Loid creates the perfect cover. Meanwhile, Anya is not the ordinary girl she appears to be; she is an Esper, the product of secret experiments that allow her to read minds. Though she discovers her true identities, Anya is thrilled that her new parents are cool secret agents! She'd never tell them, of course. That would ruin the fun.
Under the guise of "The Forgers," the spy, the assassin and the Esper must act like a family as they carry out their own agendas. Although these liars and misfits only play one role, they soon discover that the family is much more than blood relatives.
