Almost twenty-four hours after the publication of the first chapter of the second part of the manga written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto , Chainsaw Man , the number of views has skyrocketed. In a recent post, editor Shihei Lin confirmed that the number of reads on the Shonen Jump Plus service has surpassed 2.5 million (in less than a day).
And what about MANGA Plus ? Let's remember that this manga can be read completely legally on the official Shueisha distribution service . There we can know (up to the time of writing this article) how many people have read the work in each of the languages in which it is available. These figures are, so far, as follows:
- 412,684 readings in English.
- 119,511 readings in Spanish.
- 30,851 readings in Thai.
- 37,719 readings in Portuguese.
- 39,694 readings in French.
- Total : 640,459 accumulated readings outside of Japan in less than twenty-four hours.
On the other hand, Fujimoto began publishing the Chainsaw Man manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in December 2018, ending the first part in December 2020. The eleventh volume ended the first part of the work, and the sequel is still in the works. The manga will have an anime series adaptation, which will be produced by MAPPA studios and whose premiere is scheduled for 2022 in Japan.
Synopsis for Chainsaw Man
The story takes place in a world where Demons threaten the peace of humans, making them targets to be eliminated. Denji is a young and depressed man who has sold several of his organs and works as a lumberjack and demon hunter to pay off his deceased father's debt. Denji owns a dog (who is also a demon) named Pochita, who has chainsaws and which he uses to do his work.
This is explained because humans can make contracts with demons. After returning home from a job, Denji is called in by a Yakuza to infiltrate a building and assassinate another demon. However, the plan was a trap to kill him as part of a Yakuza contract with the demon, gaining them more power. But Pochita comes to Denji's aid and bonds with him, becoming a half-man, half-demon and acquiring Pochita's chainsaws.
