The popular Japanese leaker Ryokutya shared excerpts from a new interview with the representative director of MAPPA studios , Manabu Ohtsuka . The CEO commented on interesting details of the pre-production of the anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto , Chainsaw Man .
- « The plans for the anime adaptation began in 2019 when I contacted Shueisha immediately after reading the first compiled book volume of the manga. When Keisuke Seshimo decided to produce the animation adaptation of this project, Seshimo recommended Ryuu Nakayama as director .
- « The reason we chose a not so popular voice actor to play Denji was the need for him not to have a predefined personality. That is, no one would relate Denji to another character. We try to reproduce the extreme expressions as closely as possible to the original material. There are limits, but we will do our best. We have a lot of fans around the world, but I'm constantly thinking of ways to exceed their expectations ."
Synopsis for Chainsaw Man
The story takes place in a world where Demons threaten the peace of humans, making them targets to be eliminated. Denji is a young and depressed man who has sold several of his organs and works as a lumberjack and demon hunter to pay off his late father's debt. Denji owns a dog (who is also a demon) named Pochita, who has chainsaws and which he uses to do his work.
This is explained because humans can make contracts with demons. After returning home from a job, Denji is called in by a Yakuza to infiltrate a building and assassinate another demon. However, the plan was a trap to kill him as part of a Yakuza contract with the demon, gaining them more power. But Pochita comes to Denji's aid and bonds with him, becoming a half-man, half-demon and acquiring Pochita's chainsaws.
