In an unexpected turn of events, CloverWorks studios has reported a loss of 29 million yen, equivalent to more than 200 thousand US dollars , in its fiscal period ending in March 2023. This news has surprised fans, since previously the company had experienced two consecutive fiscal periods with profits.

Throughout the period in question, CloverWorks was responsible for the production of well-known and successful anime projects, such as “ SPY x FAMILY ” and “ Bocchi the Rock!  . However, these projects were apparently not enough to save the company's financial status.

CloverWorks supporters have begun to speculate on the possible reasons behind this financial loss. Some fans point out that while the aforementioned anime had a huge impact on the industry, CloverWorks also took on other projects that could have negatively affected its finances.

Among these projects are titles such as " Kunoichi Tsubaki no Mune no Uchi ", " UniteUp! “, “ Shadows House 2nd Season ” and the movies “ Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu. Movie: Spain-hen ” and “ Fate/Grand Order: Shuukyoku Tokuiten – Kani Jikan Shinden Solomon ”. Although these anime and movies may have had their own fan base, some fans suggest that they didn't achieve the same level of relevance and success as other CloverWorks projects.

In addition to the staggering financial loss reported by CloverWorks, fans have begun to speculate about a possible strategy that could have contributed to this situation. Some suspect that the studio applied financial leverage, borrowing to finance the production of large projects planned for this year . Among them are the highly anticipated film and second season of “ SPY x FAMILY ”, the upcoming two “ Seishun Buta Yarou ” films, and the long-awaited return of “ Horimiya ”. This strategy, if confirmed, could have put further pressure on CloverWorks' finances, despite the potential success of these projects.Fans are hoping to get more details about the studio's financial situation and how it will affect the development of future anime.

The anime industry is highly competitive, and sometimes the reception and financial performance of a project can be unpredictable. Despite this loss, fans are confident that CloverWorks will take the necessary steps to recover and continue to deliver quality productions well into the future.
