In a surprise twist, Twitch has decided to
withdraw a significant portion of the recently introduced changes to its
content policy. This measure comes just a few days after the platform
updated its guidelines to allow certain types of sexual content, generating
diverse reactions in the user community.
The reverted amendment specifically involves the
authorization of “artistic nudity.” The official update states: “Starting
today, we are reversing the changes to artistic nudity. Going forward, no
depictions of real or fictional nudity will be permitted on Twitch, regardless
of the medium used“. However, it is important to note that mature-rated
games will not be affected by this rollback and will continue to be subject to
the new policy.
The initial update on December 13 had
introduced significant changes to Twitch's sexual content policy, expressly
allowing forms of content previously prohibited, such as deliberately
highlighting certain areas of the body, fictitious representations of genitals
and buttocks, writing on the body, and erotic dances that involve undressing.
These changes, which were supposed to give more freedom to
content creators, sparked controversy within the Twitch community. Some
streamers appeared to take advantage of the new policy for activities that went
against the original spirit, such as the use of completely naked avatars or
overlays with explicit drawings.
In Twitch's official statement, it is mentioned that the
withdrawal of authorization for “artistic nudity” is due to concerns expressed
by the community. The statement states: “These are concerns we share.
After reflection, we have concluded that we went too far with this change.
Digital representations of nudity pose a unique challenge: artificial intelligence
can be used to create realistic images, and it can be difficult to distinguish
between digital art and photography“.
The specific mention of artificial intelligence appears to
be related to concerns that the new artistic nudity policy could allow
artists and other streamers to create and display AI-generated deepfakes,
presenting them as permitted art. The original essence of the artistic
nudity policy seemed to be to give artists the ability to draw sexual material
in their broadcasts without fear of sanction.
Twitch initially acknowledged the arts community on its
platform and how previous policies on sexual content were “overly
punitive.” However, after the changes, it seemed that some streamers
were abusing the new policy, deviating from the original spirit by using
completely naked avatars or overlays with explicit drawings.
Twitch's indecision evidently did not go unnoticed:
- «To
watch porn you have to go to XVIDEOS or PornHub, there are more
interesting things of that type there».
- «The
changes did not last a week, the most impressive thing is that this norm
lasted longer than my courtships».
- «Damn,
for once they listen to us. How glad I am».
- «Where
are all the jerks who supported the new regulations?».
- «The
jerks who subscribed to dozens of channels to watch dicks and tits in 2D
must be banging their heads».
- «When
Arigameplays was ready to bitch on Twitch, they came out with this».
- «Today
the world of streaming has won».
- «Twitch
is for gamers, I want to see gameplays, not asses. If you want to show
your pussy go to XVIDEOS and derivatives».
- «And
what did you expect? They do not know the nature of the human being».
- «Let's
watch Twitch, get clear. Can I show my nipples and my cock? Or not?».
- «Oh
what a shame, Arigameplays didn't have time to take advantage of the bug
and get naked live».
- «The
thing is that the people were evil with their tactics. They were no longer
just artistic drawings, they were drawings whose main axis was sex, and
they were even playing porn video games, stupid people».
- «Knowing
that they only do it because of all the shit that happened to them in less
than a week, that if it hadn't been for that they would leave it forever.
Twitch is the most hypocritical platform that exists and I am a big
consumer of this page».
- «I
think Twitch is the only platform that listens to its community... Thank
goodness someone does listen, not like YouTube, Instagram or TikTok».
- «These
people don't even know what they want, in the end they are going to
disappear due to bad decisions and other streaming platforms are going to
take over their territory».
- «The
thing is, who the hell thinks of that? They have taken a very strong step
without knowing the consequences they would have on the Internet».
- «It
seems that they saw that their business was going to shit because they
were going to have to prohibit minors from browsing the platform».
