The Comic Market (Comiket) convention
in August in Japan has revealed the list of participating doujinshi circles,
surprising with the predominance of the “ Blue Archive ”
franchise, which leads with 1922 circles . This number represents an
increase of 200 circles compared to the previous edition, which means
that half of the convention center will be dedicated to “Blue Archive”
doujinshi . This impressive growth reflects the surge in popularity of
this franchise among independent artists.
- All
the space enclosed in the red box, except the small section in blue, will
be artist stands selling “Blue Archive” doujinshi. As you can see, it is
practically half of the enclosure.
“Blue Archive” is followed by 1,457 circles
dedicated to VTubers in general , which although experiencing a
decrease of 135 circles, are still a significant group. Other popular
franchises such as “ Uma Musume: Pretty Derby ” have 830
circles (decrease from 143), “ TYPE-MOON ” with 687 circles,
including Fate Series and Tsukihime (decrease from 154), “ Kantai
Collection ” with 520 (decrease from 130), “ The Idolmaster ”
with 654 (decrease of 154), and “ Touhou Project ” with 674
(decrease of 96).
The relevance of a franchise being extremely popular
among independent artists lies in the extent to which these doujinshi circles
drive and reflect the franchise's fan base. A high number of circles
not only demonstrates the popularity and cultural impact of the franchise, but
also strengthens its presence in the otaku community, providing new and varied
content to fans.
In Japan, the doujinshi industry allows independent
artists to create and sell works based on licensed characters due to a
combination of cultural and legal factors. Publishers and companies
often allow these activities under the premise that they promote the franchises
and foster an active community of fans. However, there are
restrictions to protect copyright, such as the prohibition of reproducing
official works in their entirety or making large-scale commercial use without
permission.
Comiket, known as the otaku convention par
excellence, is a biannual event that brings together thousands of artists and
fans. From unknown to well-known artists, everyone has the opportunity to offer
their latest doujinshi to their fans. The convention not only includes
works for all audiences, but also hentai doujinshis, which reflects the
diversity and breadth of content that can be found. Comiket is a space
where creativity and passion for anime, manga and video games converge, offering
a unique experience for all attendees.
The next August edition promises to be a
memorable event, especially with the overwhelming presence of “Blue Archive”,
which will undoubtedly be one of the great attractions for attendees.
