Failing at
magic for a lifetime and dying without achieving it is a bad ending to any
story. But Ephtal was lucky that wasn't the end. The main
trailer for From Overshadowed to Overpowered arrived
confirming its premiere for June 25, 2026, and incidentally
revealed that the opening is in charge of FLOW, the band
responsible for Naruto's "GO!!" and Code Geass' "Colors".
The lace is almost too obvious to be a coincidence.
The trailer
shows for the first time the tone of the series: Ephtal's reincarnation story,
his magical battles and the contrast between his previous life as a talentless
wizard and his second chance loaded with power and accumulated knowledge.
The opening "+Encount" of FLOW accompanies the
scenes. The ending "Dokei" is performed by TrySail.
One of the
most curious details of the cast is that the protagonist Ephtal is
played by three different seiyuus depending on the stage of his life: Shuichiro
Umeda voices the current Ephtal, while Hiroki Tochi and Ayaka
Fukuhara play the wise old man and the young Ephtal from his previous
life respectively. It is a casting decision that directly reflects the
narrative structure of a story where the protagonist is literally not the same
person he was.

From
Overshadowed to Overpowered (Rakudai Kenja no Gakuin Muso: Nidome no Tensei,
S-Rank Cheat Majutsushi Bokenroku) is based on a light novel by Arata Shiraishi with
illustrations by Uodenim, published by Kadokawa from October 2019
until its eighth volume in March 2022. The manga adaptation, drawn by Kentaro,
has been running in Square Enix's Manga UP! since September
2019 and has nine volumes compiled. The story follows Ephtal, a man
reincarnated from modern-day Earth into a world of magic who devotes his entire
life to mastering the magical art, only to discover that he has no talent for
it and die in despair. Four hundred years later he reincarnates again with the
same name, retaining all the knowledge and power accumulated from his previous
existence. With that capital as a starting point, he begins a second life aimed
at reaching the peak of magic.
