A body swap
in the middle of the imperial court, a villainess who wakes up in the wrong
body and the death sentence as a backdrop. Though I Am an Inept
Villainess released its full trailer confirming its premiere for July
12, 2026, and incidentally revealed that the opening is sung by Milet:
his first solo opening for a television anime. The trailer also introduces five
new cast members and offers the most comprehensive look yet into the show's
world of courtly intrigue.
The opening
is called "Sunny," and the fact that it's milet's
first solo opening for an anime gives the announcement special weight. The full
trailer shows in more detail the dynamics of the body swap between Kou
Reirin and Shu Keigetsu, the tense atmosphere of the
imperial court and the close-ups of the cast in action. Two special members of
the project were also confirmed: former Takarazuka Revue stars Madoka
Hoshikaze and Hana Jun, named as special supporters of the
anime. Advance screenings are scheduled for June 21 at TOHO CINEMAS Hibiya in
Tokyo.

About
Though I Am an Inept Villainess
Though I
Am an Inept Villainess (Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga) is a light novel by Satsuki
Nakamura with illustrations by YukiKana published by
Ichijinsha since December 2020, with twelve volumes in circulation. Ei
Ohitsuji's manga adaptation runs simultaneously in Monthly
Comic Zero-Sum. Seven Seas publishes both versions in
English. The story follows Kou Reirin, the delicate and beautiful
court "butterfly" who is destined to become the crown prince's
consort, and Shu Keigetsu, the dreaded "court rat." After
a confrontation during the Lantern Festival, Reirin awakens in Keigetsu's body,
locked in a dungeon and with a pending death sentence. What comes next is a
story of survival, courtly politics and the question of whether that more
robust body could be, paradoxically, what she needs to change her destiny.
