Fans of school romances with a musical twist
finally have a real reason to celebrate. The giant publisher Kadokawa made
our day by officially announcing that the popular manga Studio Cabana,
created by the talented Agri Uma, will make the long-awaited leap
to the small screen. Through a first promotional look, the production
committee confirmed that this new animated adaptation will
land on Japanese television during the year 2027.
The narrative of this little gem introduces us
to Yukari Maki, a student who values honesty above absolutely everything. His
monotonous school life is turned upside down when he begins to take an interest
in Yusuke Kusaka, the classic rebellious boy who is treated by the whole class
as a dangerous criminal. Refusing to ignore him, she ends up secretly following
him until she discovers that the boy spends his afternoons locked in a music
studio singing with a local band, revealing a vulnerable side that no one knew
about. To ensure this heartwarming story comes to life properly, studio
JUVENAGE recruited Shinichiro Ushijima (famous for
directing the heartbreaking I Want to Eat Your Pancreas) for the
director's chair, backed by Sawako Hirabayashi's scripts
and Haruka Sagawa's beautiful character designs.
Unexpected Comebacks and Open Auditions
As for the voice cast, the
production left us with a rather nostalgic surprise for veteran fans. Renowned
actress Sayumi Suzushiro will officially reprise her role as the protagonist,
returning to the booth after having voiced Yukari in a small promotional video
that was originally published in 2022. On the other hand, the voice of the
enigmatic Yusuke Kusaka remains an absolute mystery, as the producers decided
to launch an open audition to find the perfect vocalist who can interpret their
musical themes impeccably, even involving the community with a voting system to
choose the final candidate.
