If you've been waiting weekly for the continuation on the small screen to see how the chaos with the giant creatures ends, it's time to adjust your plans and prepare the popcorn. During a special event held this Saturday in Tokyo, TOHO animation hit the table by announcing that the conclusion of the anime Kaiju No. 8 will not be broadcast on television, but will make the leap to the big screen with the film Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission scheduled for the year 2027.

The revealing announcement took place during the Defense Forces' in-person event held in Tachikawa, where the voice cast reconvened on stage. To accompany the news, the production team released a striking promotional image drawn by art director Shinji Kimura, highlighting with a forceful phrase on its poster: "The age of humanity is over." The direction of the feature film will once again be in the hands of Shigeyuki Miya under the production of the acclaimed Production I.G studio, guaranteeing a visual section at the height of the denouement.

Voice actor Masaya Fukunishi, who plays the beloved protagonist Kafka Hibino, couldn't hide his excitement from the audience and shared some very special words about the closure of the franchise. The actor stressed that in 2027 he will turn 32, exactly the same age as Kafka in the story, something that he feels as a marked destiny to say goodbye to his character. Fukunishi promised to give everything in the recording studio to give him the epic ending that this journey deserves that began after the broadcast of the first season and the second season.

About Kaiju No. 8

Kaiju No. 8 is a hit action and science fiction work written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. The manga began publication on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform in July 2020, officially concluding in July 2025. The story places us in a Japan constantly ravaged by gigantic monsters, following Kafka Hibino, a disillusioned 32-year-old man who works cleaning the corpses of these creatures until an unexpected incident grants him the ability to transform into one of them, allowing him to pursue his dream of joining the Defense Forces.

The animated franchise debuted in April 2024 with a twelve-episode first season that became a resounding success internationally. The saga subsequently continued its broadcast with a second season released in July 2025, complemented in September by a special four-episode miniseries focused on the character of Narumi. Now, everything is ready for the final clash to have its outcome in the movie theaters.
