Pokémon Sword / Shield is declared "Game of the Year" by Famitsu

Famitsu and Dengeki revealed the winners of the "Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2019" during an online broadcast. The prizes included written comments from each winner and Pokémon Sword / Shield surprised by being named "Game of the Year".

  • Best Rookie in the Industry: Death Stranding.
  • Best Indie Game: Gnosia.
  • Best Shooter: Apex Legends.
  • Best E-Sports Exponent: Fortnite.
  • Best Online Game: Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers.
  • Best Streamer: Junichi Katou (Unkochan).
  • Best RPG: Pokémon Sword / Shield.
  • Best Action Game: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
  • Best Action-Adventure Game: Death Stranding.
  • Best Adventure Game: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.
  • Best Creator in China: Hideo Kojima.
  • Best Game in China: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
  • Best Character: Sam Porter Bridges of Death Stranding.
  • Best Soundtrack: Persona 5 Royal.
  • Best Stage: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.
  • Best Graphics: Death Stranding.
  • Famitsu Dengeki Special Prize: Dragon Quest Walk and Ring Fit Adventure.
  • MVC (Most Valuable Creator) or Creator of the Year: Hideo Kojima.
  • Game of the Year: Pokémon Sword / Shield.

Players from all over Japan voted to create the nomination list between January 28 and February 17 (except for the two exclusive China Awards). Famitsu announced the nominees on April 7.


About Pokémon Sword / Shield
The game was released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch console on November 15. Initial pokémon for this new Galar region include Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Other previously revealed pokémon include Wooloo, Gossifleur, Eldegoss, Drednaw, Corviknight, and the legendary pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta, Galarian Weezing, Galarian Zigzagoon, Galarian Linoone, Obstagoon, and Morpeko.
