About Funimation

It is an American entertainment company that specializes in the dubbing and distribution of foreign content, especially anime. Japanese conglomerate Sony is the majority shareholder of the company, with 95% of the shares. Funimation co-founder Gen Fukunaga then only owns the remaining 5% of the company in his possession.

The company was founded in May 1994 by Fukunaga and his wife and was later acquired by Navarre Corporation in May 2005. In September 2016, Funimation announced a collaboration with the Crunchyroll platform, which led to a portion of the content of one platform could be transmitted on the other. However, this collaboration came to an end in November 2018, after Sony Pictures Television acquired Funimation, prompting all content that was currently being streamed on Crunchyroll thanks to the collaboration to be immediately removed.
