It is a voice software developed by Crypton Future Media as well as the name of its anthropomorphic version, starring a 16-year-old girl with two turquoise pigtails. The personification of Hatsune Miku has become one of the most important virtual idols in history, with her voice programmed based on voice actress Saki Fujita.
Strongly promoted since 2008 and originally aimed at professional musicians, in 2007 sales of the character's products accumulated more than 57.5 million yen, making it the best-selling software of that time. Miku was the first voice pack developed and distributed by Crypton Future Media, and its instant success made it a major cultural hit in Japan, with more than 40,000 copies sold in July 2008, which meant 300 copies a week.
