According to a recent article related to the current state of the manga industry, specifically for Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, the editorial department commented that they expect manga written and illustrated by Gege Akutani, Jujutsu Kaisen, to exceed Ten million copies in circulation at the time of the announced anime adaptation, making it the magazine's new flagship.
The article goes on to mention that the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series became quite popular from the start, having more than 250,000 copies in circulation with just its first two compiled volumes published and after numerous reprints. Additionally, it was highlighted that the manga is written by a relatively new author in the industry, making its success even more surprising.
In a second statement, the editorial department also commented on the manga written and illustrated by Tatsuya Matsuki, Act-Age, highlighting the fact that the author is also relatively new to the industry and has also had a major impact not only on the manga but in other industries, coming to have an important adaptation to a theater play scheduled for the year 2022, which is currently holding auditions to select the actress who will represent the protagonist.
Both works have been praised through different recommendations, nominations and awards received, reaching adaptations outside the manga industry, such as anime in the case of Jujutsu Kaisen and theater in the case of Act-Age. The editorial department of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine ended their statement by mentioning that they are quite excited to find new talents in the manga that offer similar successes.
