When it seemed that the universe of mobile video games had already explored everything, the franchise is once again making a splash with a completely unexpected bet. MIXI surprised its fans by confirming the production of Mera x Death: Shinigami to Boku no Ijo na Koi, a new animated adaptation that promises to mix mystery, supernatural events and a rather unusual romance that will hit screens on January 5, 2027.
The plot is
set in the city of Ouma, a place marked by the memory of a huge explosion that
occurred six years ago that did not leave a single death, an event that
everyone considers a real miracle. A mysterious orb known as the Crystal Sun
floats over the city, framing the boring life of Mera Kagari, a
sixteen-year-old boy who feels completely out of place. Everything changes on
the day of his birthday when he meets Thirteen, an enigmatic girl with whom his
monotonous world begins to fill with bright colors, at the same time that
strange incidents begin to shake the entire town.
The
animated project will be jointly produced by studios Qzil.la and studio
keel, with the direction of Kenta Kushitani. The supervision and
writing of the plot structure will be in charge of Daisuke Ohigashi,
while the design of the characters is in charge of Tadashi Sakazaki. In
the sound section, the soundtrack promises very intense moments thanks to the
collaboration of composers Masaru Yokoyama, Kana Hashiguchi and Natsuki
Hamada, backed by the sound direction of Fumihiko Otera and the
advice of Takao Kato.
About
Monster Strike
Originally
born in 2013 as a popular role-playing and physics video game for mobile
devices developed by MIXI, Monster Strike became a massive
phenomenon within the Japanese market. The franchise made the leap to animation
in October 2015 with its first web-based series, expanding over the years
through multiple sequels, spin-off projects and successful feature films such
as Lucifer Dawn of Despair. With the recent broadcast of Monster
Strike: Deadverse Reloaded at the end of 2025, the saga continues to be
renewed to attract new audiences.
