A special illustration was published on the official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Bkup Okawa, Pop Team Epic, commemorating the marriage of voice actors Kana Hanazawa and Kensho Ono.
The actors jointly participated in the series, with Kana Hanazawa playing Popuko and Kensho Ono playing Pipipi, in episode # 13 of the series, The publication noted that multiple voice actors who participated in the series have been announcing that they are they are getting married.
For his part, Okawa has published the webcomic on the Takeshobo publisher Manga Life Win website since August 2014. The publisher published the third compilation volume in March 2019.
The work inspired a fourteen-episode anime adaptation produced by Kamikaze Douga Studios, directed by Jun Aoki and Aoi Umeki, and scripts written by Jun Aoki released in January 2018.
Synopsis of Pop Team Epic
The series chronicles the misadventures of two fourteen-year-old girls named Popuko and Pipimi, who find themselves in a variety of both mundane and bizarre situations and respond to them in equally bizarre and exaggerated ways. The manga stands out for its parodies of pop culture and its combination of the surreal and the absurd, which has given it a boost in popularity in both Japan and the West.
