The Box Office Mojo website reported that the film Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen actually had the highest grossing opening weekend (October 16-18) in the world. The film sold 3,424,930 tickets and had a total gross of 4,623,117,450 yen (approximately $ 43.85 million) in its first three days.

Until last Monday, the second film that occupied the ranking of collections last weekend was My People, My Homeland, which did not reach even half of the amount collected by the film based on Koyoharu Gotouge's manga, obtaining an estimate of $ 19.1 million in China. On the other hand, the film Honest Thief had the highest grossing in the United States, with only 3.7 million dollars.

The collection statistics for Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen are described below. It should be noted that its first day already has the highest grossing on a weekday opening day in Japanese history.

  • Friday, October 16: 910,507 tickets sold for a gross of 1,268,724,700 yen (approximately $ 12.03 million).
  • Saturday, October 17: 1,270,234 tickets sold for a gross of 1,701,723,350 yen (approximately $ 16.14 million).
  • Sunday, October 18: 1,239,752 tickets sold for a gross of 1,652,669,400 yen (approximately $ 15.67 million).

Just considering the amounts raised on Saturday and Sunday, the movie already has the highest grossing on an opening weekend in Japanese film history. Finally, the film opened in Japanese theaters on October 16 in Japan and is a direct sequel to the events of the anime, adapting the "Infinity Train Arc" from the original manga. Koyoharu Gotouge published the manga in Shueisha publisher's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between February 2016 and May 2020.
