In a recent interview published by Bilibili , the CEO of Riot Games , Nicolo Laurent , confirmed that the second season of the Arcane animated series will not be released this year , as many claimed. However, he also revealed that he has already watched the third episode of this sequel and that the production is continuing apace.
Arcane is one of the many animation adaptations of video games that achieved incredible success thanks to a high level of production. Arcane's first season took the cake and almost every international award it was nominated for, drawing attention even from people who had never played League of Legends, the video game that inspired the story, in their lives .
When the first season ended, the second one was announced shortly after, which left the fans quite satisfied. However, this continuation was not in the plans of the production team, which did not expect the adaptation to be tremendously successful. This was commented by Nicolo Laurent during the short segment of the interview:
- « I just watched the third episode of the second season before my flight, so we are progressing on it. It is not ready yet and there are two reasons for it. One, we want quality. We just don't want to rush. We honestly didn't know if the first season was going to be a success. […] If we had known, we could have started the second season much earlier. But we didn't know, so we waited a bit. Now we are paying the price. So unfortunately it will not be released this year ».
Arcane Synopsis
The story takes place in the cities of Piltover and Zaun. Although Arcane focuses only on these two cities, they belong to the Runeterra world. Piltover is the academic and scientific and wealthy city, while Zaun is the opposite, with suburbs full of crime, poverty and infested with toxic chemicals, where there is no authority whatsoever. The tensions and rivalries that exist between these two cities divide families and friends, as in the case of Vi and Powder, two Zaunite sisters; or Jayce and Viktor, two inventor friends and apprentices of the legendary scientist Heimerdinger. All these relationships will overflow with the creation of Hextech in Piltover, a technology with which anyone is able to control magical energy, while in Zaun a new drug transforms humans into monsters.
