Kanojo mo Kanojo finally comes to an end

In the most recent issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine , after more than three years of continuous serialization, the final chapter of the manga written and illustrated by Hiroyuki , Kanojo mo Kanojo ( Girlfriend, Girlfriend ), was published . The work concluded with a harem ending, just as the author had already anticipated years ago . You did not know? Hiroyuki himself mentioned it in an interview in August 2021:

  • « I was not inspired by anything in particular, but during a meeting with my editor, when I proposed this story, he mentioned that in Gotoubun no Hanayome, only one girl is chosen. As we talked about how bad we felt about the girls who didn't get chosen, we wondered what it would be like to write a win-win story . I imagine it would be difficult, but it could also be fun. I started writing this series because I wanted to explore that concept through manga ."

Anyway, it actually became a manga in which the four main girls won, and even the protagonist himself tells us what happened to each of them after a while of this multiple relationship:

  • Mirika lost a large number of subscribers as a result of her live broadcast. But she still has quite a few that stayed because of her content, so she keeps making videos and working towards a million. And by the way, she's still sleeping in her tent in the yard.
  • Saki-chan is working hard to fulfill her own dream. She frequently collaborates with Mirika-san, and their discussions are very popular, so they both benefit from it.
  • Minase-san is practicing to get into a culinary school. Having decided her future and seeing everyone enjoy her cooking, both parties motivate each other.
  • Shino-san's vast knowledge helps us all. She always helps me study, and she gets a little perverted sometimes.

Regarding the end, the protagonist's parents finally make an appearance and declare their refusal to the fact that their son dates four girls at the same time, closing the franchise forever.

Hiroyuki began publishing the manga through Kodansha 's Weekly Shonen Magazine in March 2020 and ended it in May 2023. The work inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by Tezuka Productions studios , under the direction by Satoshi Kuwahara and scripts written by Keiichirou Oochi , which aired during the Summer-2021 (July-September) season . A second season is in production.

Sinopsis of Kanojo mo Kanojo

After harboring unrequited love for several years, Naoya Mukai finally gets a date with his childhood friend, Saki Saki. However, just as he tries to commit to this relationship, he receives an abrupt confession from Nagisa Minase. At first, Naoya tries to reject her but is soon overwhelmed by his feelings of not wanting to hurt her. Trying to avoid betraying his girlfriend's trust in him, Naoya thinks of a "solution" to make them both happy: dating them both. Saki naturally rejects the idea, but through Naoya and Nagisa's persistence, she ends up agreeing. With this, a three-way romance begins between Naoya, his girlfriend, and his other girlfriend, who already have a relationship that deviates from the social norm to begin with.
