During the Aniplex Online Fest 2023 event, the first promotional video for the new season of the anime adaptation of Kazue Katou 's manga , Blue Exorcist ( Ao no Exorcist ), was revealed . The video confirms that the title of this new season is Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga , and that the premiere is scheduled for January 2024 in Japan.

During the event it was not commented whether it is a long-running adaptation (that is, more than twenty episodes), considering that the story arc is quite extensive in the original manga. On the other hand, the press release confirmed the departure of A-1 Pictures studios from this adaptation project .

For his part, Kato began publishing the manga in Shueisha 's Jump SQ magazine in April 2009. The work inspired an anime adaptation of twenty-five episodes produced by A-1 Pictures studios under the direction of Tensai Okamura and scripts . written by Ryouta Yamaguchi , premiered in April 2011. A second season titled Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen ( Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga ) premiered in January 2017 with a total of twelve episodes.

Synopsis of Blue Exorcist

Humans and demons are two sides of the same coin, just as Assiah and Gehenna are their respective worlds. The only way to travel between the two worlds is through possession. However, Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, has been unable to find a worthy vessel to possess and consequently remains locked in his world. In a desperate move to conquer Assiah, he sends his son, with the purpose that in the future he will become a worthy vessel capable of becoming the king of the demons.

The story follows Rin Okumura, who seems to be an ordinary boy, until one day he is ambushed by demons. His world is turned upside down when he discovers that he is the son of Satan and that his father is looking for him to return so they can finally conquer Assiah together.
