Renowned anime and live-action film director, Hideaki Anno ,
captivated fans at an exhibition dedicated to his outstanding career in Nagoya.
The exhibition, which housed approximately 2,000 objects representative of his
creative activities, offered a deep dive into Anno's world, from his
earliest sketches to the details behind his most iconic projects .
Among the objects on display were original drawings,
storyboards and memos, meticulously tracing the traces of his creative genius
over the years. From the first strokes to the masterpieces that have
left an indelible mark on pop culture, the exhibition provided a unique insight
into Anno's artistic evolution.
Despite the vastness of his legacy, Anno humbly
stated that “it's still a little early to look back,” emphasizing that, at 63,
he doesn't yet feel ready to retire. His passion and
dedication to his art continue to inspire generations of creators around the
world.
One of the highlights of the exhibition was when Anno
interacted with film production and design students. He enthusiastically
responded to his questions, sharing wisdom and experience accumulated
throughout his illustrious career. But the most surprising thing was
when he was asked about his favorite character from “ Neon Genesis
Evangelion ”, one of his most iconic works.
Without hesitation, Anno revealed that her
favorite character in the series would be Asuka Langley. This
character, known for her strong and complex personality, has left a lasting
impression on fans of the franchise. Asuka, an EVA pilot with a traumatic
background, has been acclaimed for her psychological development and complex
interpersonal relationships. Her bond with the protagonist, Shinji
Ikari, and her role in the plot have generated debates and analysis among fans
of “Neon Genesis Evangelion.”
