Following today’s final episode, a press release
announced the production of a new sequel for the “ Mahouka Koukou
no Rettousei ( The Irregular at Magic High School )”
anime franchise. This sequel will be a film that will adapt the
“Yotsuba Succession Arc ,” which spans Volume 16 of the original light
novels.
Although a promotional video was
included, a scheduled premiere date for this new project was not revealed. It
should be noted that this is one of the longest-running franchises based on
light novels, inspiring its first season more than ten years ago and lasting to
date through seasons, OVAs, movies and spin-offs.
Finally, the arch in question is described as
follows:
- In
December, Miyuki receives an invitation to the Yotsuba family New Year's
gathering. However, unlike previous
years, the invitation specially added “Everyone must attend.” Miyuki
understands that “the time has come”: it is time to decide the next head
of the Yotsuba clan. (If she is chosen, her brother will be
free.) (If she becomes the next leader, she will be forced to marry
someone else.) Miyuki's heart is in turmoil.
- During
the winter break, Miyuki, Tatsuya, and Minami head to the Yotsuba main
residence. Walking down an unfamiliar path, they arrive at the
house. The trio is greeted with Maya Yotsuba’s smile, and finally,
on the last remaining day of the year 2096, Maya personally tells Tatsuya
“Miyuki is not your sister.” The impact of this “lie,” the true
meaning of Maya’s intention is…
For their part, Tsutomu Satou and Kana
Ishida began publishing the light novels through Kadokawa 's Dengeki
Bunko publishing label in July 2011 and ended it in September 2021. A
sequel titled “ Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Magian Company ”
released its first volume in October 2021 in Japan.
The work has inspired three anime seasons
since Spring 2014 (April-June) , which to date total fifty-two
episodes. The special “ The Irregular at Magic High School:
Reminiscence Arc ” was also produced in December 2021 and the spin-off
anime “ The Honor Student at Magic High School ” in Summer
2021 (July-September), although the latter was produced by CONNECT studios.
Synopsis of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei
At the dawn of the 21st century, magic,
which was long considered folklore and fairy tales, has become a systematized
technology and is taught as a technical skill. At the First Preparatory School,
the institution for magicians, students are segregated into two groups based on
their score on the entrance exam: Those who get high scores are assigned to the
First Course, while the “weeds” are reserve students assigned to the Second
Course.
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei follows siblings
Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, who enroll in the First Course. Upon taking the exam,
the prodigious Miyuki is placed in the First Course, while Tatsuya is relegated
to the Second Course. Although his practical exam scores and “Weed” status show
him to be inept when it comes to magic, he possesses extraordinary technical
knowledge, physical combat capabilities, and unique magical techniques, making
Tatsuya the irregular of a magic school.
