Anime characters with the best eyes

The Anime! Anime! portal has conducted a survey entitled “ Which anime character has the most impressive eyes? ”, following up on a similar exercise carried out last year. This time, the survey gathered 1,480 participants between August 30 and September 2, with results that reveal interesting insights into fans’ preferences.

This survey is not a simple curiosity, as eyes are a fundamental element in the representation of anime characters. Often, eyes are not only an aesthetic feature, but can convey emotions, define personalities and even make a character memorable with just one look. For many anime fans, identifying a character by their eyes becomes a natural skill , given that in Japanese animation the details in this part of the face are essential to highlight its uniqueness.

The choice to conduct the survey around the eyes is no coincidence. September 9, known as “Mascara Day” (Masukara no Hi) in Japan, is associated with large, expressive eyes, a characteristic for which anime has become so iconic around the world. This date was originally established by a cosmetics company to promote the beauty of the eyes, placing special emphasis on the use of products such as mascara, which beautify this area. Just as in makeup, where the eyes are the center of facial expression, in anime, they are a crucial component in capturing the attention of viewers.

Anime! Anime!'s survey highlighted the participation of a predominantly female audience, as approximately 65% of participants were female, while only 25% were male. The remaining 10% chose not to reveal their gender. Furthermore, the survey predominantly attracted a young audience, as 60% of participants were 19 years old or younger, and 15% were in their twenties, proving that the fascination with striking-eyed characters is particularly strong among younger generations.
