MBS on September 25 promoted at its fall press
conference in Osaka the anime adaptation of the popular manga ' Dandadan ', which will
air on its nationwide programming block in October. Created by
Yukinobu Tatsu, the work has been a smash hit since its serialization on
Shueisha's Shonen Jump Plus app, racking up millions of views and millions of
copies in circulation.
'Dandadan' combines a supernatural battle story with
elements of comedy and youthful romance, attracting a large number of readers
thanks to its fresh and original approach. MBS's general programming
director Shinichi Tabuchi (田淵伸一) highlighted the
series' potential, stating that despite its occult and paranormal themes, the
series has the potential to become a hit on par with anime like 'Jujutsu
Kaisen', 'Haikyu!' and 'Kimetsu no Yaiba', due to its ability to attract a
diverse audience.
'Dandadan' has stood out for its originality in
tackling urban legends, aliens and paranormal elements, which has generated a
fan base passionate about horror and occult themes. However, some
critics point out that this peculiar mix of genres might not appeal to all
viewers.
The anime will be produced by renowned studio Science
SARU, known for its innovative and unique visual style. This has
generated high expectations, but also uncertainty among fans about how the
transition from the manga's narrative and visual dynamics to the animated
format will be. According to Tabuchi, the team behind the series is
confident that 'Dandadan' could make its way into the international market,
just as other successful franchises have done.
On social media, the statement has generated a mixed
reaction. Some fans are excited, while others are
skeptical about the scope of the adaptation. Comments include:
- « Dandadan
has quite a few elements of horror and the occult, so its success will
depend on whether it manages to capture the attention of lovers of those
themes . »
- “ MBS
has a track record of success in anime, so it’s understandable that they
are confident, but it remains to be seen how the general public reacts .”
- " The
manga relies heavily on its action and visual composition, so we'll have
to see how that adapts to the anime ."
- « Dandadan
is a rare anime that even features Mayumi Tanaka »
- « TBS
is also declaring that 'Ao no Hako' will be their number one. It looks
like it will be a direct battle between TBS and MBS for anime dominance .
»
- « Although
it's from another network, it will depend on whether they can take
advantage of social media as much as 'Sousou no Frieren' did. If they
manage to keep the conversation going between episodes, the hype and
anticipation for each episode will increase .»
- « I
secretly support Dandadan because Zutomayo is in charge of the ending ».
- « The
anime leaked overseas, right? »
- « Important
people should just watch and support with warmth .»
- « Wouldn't
it be safer to just animate the rest of 'Haikyuu!!'? If you really think
Dandadan is on the level of those three anime, your sense of taste and
judgment are failing .»
- « Honestly,
I don't think it has that much potential. It will probably end up being
like 'Chainsaw Man'. It doesn't seem like the kind of manga that's going
to explode in popularity .»
- « In
the fall, I think 'Ranma' will be the series with the most popularity .»
- " Such
high expectations can be counterproductive ."
- « Since
it's produced by Science SARU, I have a feeling it will be a stylish and
modern anime .»
- « Dandadan
is very entertaining, but the story and characters are quite peculiar, so
I'm not sure it will have the same impact as 'Haikyuu!!' or
'Kimetsu no Yaiba' ».
