Net-juu no Susume studio to disappear

A press release recently surprised with some interesting news: anime studios Production IG and Signal.MD will officially merge starting June 1st. In this merger, Production IG will be the survivor, while Signal.MD will disappear as an independent studio , marking the end of more than a decade of history. While it sounds dramatic and sad, IG Port, the parent company, assures that this is to optimize resources and improve the group's profits.

Interestingly, this merger does not involve money, stocks, or any strange transfers. It is rather an internal move between “sister studios,” as both studios are subsidiaries of IG Port. Furthermore, Production IG will continue to operate as it does now, with no changes to its name, activities, or management. What is not yet clear is what will happen to all Signal.MD employees, but the matter has remained silent.

Meanwhile, Signal.MD was founded in 2014 with Katsuji Morishita as its first president, and is currently under the leadership of Takatoshi Chino. Although the studio did not have the same weight as its other siblings, it did leave behind several anime gems to remember, including:

  • “Net-juu no Susume” (Spring-2017) , an anime that is still in the hearts of online romantic comedy fans.

  • “Cider no You ni Kotoba ga Wakiagaru” (2021) , a beautiful film that touches the heart with its unique style and message about human connection.

  • “Fate/Grand Order: Shinsei Entaku Ryouiki Camelot 1 – Wandering; Agateram” (2020) , part of the acclaimed Fate franchise.

  • “Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san OVA” (2018) , a special extra for fans of ecchi and supernatural comedy.

  • “Mars Red” (Spring-2021) , with a visual and narrative style that divided opinions but did not go unnoticed.

What do you think about this merger? Do you think Signal.MD will be missed or will everything continue as usual?
