A Story of Tears, Magic, and Purpose

Once Upon a Witch's Death is an adaptation of the fantasy light novel written by Saka, which began airing in Japan on April 1, 2025. The anime is available for international streaming through Crunchyroll, with the exception of Japan and China.

The story revolves around Meg Raspberry, a young witch apprentice who receives tragic news on her 17th birthday: her master Faust, one of the Seven Eternal Sages, is destined to die. To save him, Meg must counter the Death Sentence Curse by gathering tears of joy from a thousand people, thus creating the mythical Seed of Life.

With a blend of adventure, drama, and personal growth, the series invites viewers to follow Meg's steps as she travels through different regions, meets endearing characters, and reaps authentic emotions in her fight to save the one she loves most.

Maaya Sakamoto also joins the journey

In parallel, renowned artist Maaya Sakamoto has released the official music video for the series' opening theme, adding an additional emotional layer to Meg's journey. This collaboration has been well received by fans, who highlight the song's sensitivity and its connection to the main story.
