Square
Enix's Gangan Joker magazine announced in its July issue that
the manga Vanitas no Carte (also known as The Case
Study of Vanitas), the work of Jun Mochizuki, will return with
a new chapter on July 22, 2025.
The manga
had been on hiatus since May 2024. Although a pause of only two
months had initially been announced, the absence of new chapters lasted for
more than a year, generating great expectation among fans of the series.
A
history marked by pauses
This is not
the first time that Vanitas no Carte has faced interruptions. The
work had previously been on hiatus between June 2022 and May 2023. However,
this new reappearance marks a key point for fans who were looking forward to
its continuation.
The
Story Behind the Grimoire
The story
follows Noah, a young vampire who arrives in Paris looking for a
mysterious book known as The Book of Vanitas, related to his
friend's salvation. There he meets Vanitas, a self-proclaimed
vampire doctor who carries the enigmatic grimoire. Together, they become
embroiled in a dangerous plot that threatens the peace between humans and
vampires.
The series
was originally released in December 2015 in Gangan
Joker magazine. To date, it has 11 compilation volumes,
the last of which was published in April 2024 by Square Enix.
From
paper to screen
The success
of the manga led to an animated adaptation by the BONES studio,
which premiered in July 2021. The second part of the series aired
in January 2022. Funimation aired the first part
with English dubbing, while the second part was broadcast by Funimation and Crunchyroll,
which subsequently added the first part to its catalog as well.
With the
long-awaited return in July, readers will once again be able to immerse
themselves in the dark and elegant atmosphere of steampunk Paris that
characterizes Vanitas no Carte.
