The
official X account (formerly Twitter) of the manga Umi
ga Hashiru Endroll, by John Tarachine, announced on Tuesday
that the series will conclude with the ninth compilation volume.
A story
about rediscovering life through cinema
The story
follows Umiko, a 65-year-old woman who is still grieving the recent
death of her husband. One day, after decades without setting foot in a movie
theater, he decides to watch a movie again, and there he meets Kai,
a young university student studying cinema. Fascinated by the audience's
reactions during the screening, Umiko catches the attention of Kai, who then
asks, "Aren't you someone interested in making movies?"
That moment
awakens a new passion in Umiko, leading her to embark on the world of independent
cinema, and to rebuild her life from a completely new perspective.
A manga
that breaks with the stereotypes of age
This story,
deeply human and out of the ordinary within commercial manga, has been
published in Akita Shoten's Mystery Bonita magazine.
The eighth compilation volume was published on
Wednesday, July 17 (Spain time), leaving only one volume pending to
close the story.
Umi ga
Hashiru Endroll has
stood out for its realistic depiction of grief, aging, and the search for new
purposes even in the later stages of life.
