Wild Adapter returns after almost a decade since its hiatus

Ichijinsha announced that author Kazuya Minekura will return to her Wild Adapter manga after a nine-year hiatus. Chapter 50 will debut on August 8 on the Ichijin Plus platform, coinciding with its reopening after maintenance tasks.

The last chapter of the manga had been published in 2016 on the Zero-Sum Online portal. Since then, the series had remained inactive due, in part, to the author's health problems, which also affected the pace of publication of her other work, Saiyuki Reload Blast.

A journey through the criminal underworld and the supernatural

The story revolves around Makoto Kubota, a young gang leader who ends up taking in Minoru Tokitoh, a mysterious boy who was exposed to the drug known as "W.A." This compound has transformed his right arm into a monstrous limb, and the two embark on an investigation to discover the origins of the substance, which is unleashing chaos in the city's underworld.

A manga with an extensive publishing history

Wild Adapter began serialization in 2000 in Tokuma Shoten's Chara magazine. Later, in 2011, it passed into the hands of Ichijinsha, where it was published in the magazine Zero-Sum Ward until it closed in May 2015.

Since then, the series continued its journey in digital format through the Zero-Sum Online platform. This is how the seventh compilation volume was released in July 2015.

Adaptations and presence in other media

The popularity of the work led to the creation of two OVAs, released in 2014 and 2015 respectively. In addition, the Wild Adapter characters also appear in another Minekura manga: Shiritsu Araiso Koutougakkou Seitokai Shikkoubu, which was adapted into anime in 2002.

In 2006, Tokyopop licensed the manga for publication in North America, eventually releasing six volumes before the closure of its publishing division in that region.

Minekura continues to resume his great works

This return is in addition to the recent resumption of Saiyuki Reload Blast, which was re-released in September 2024 after another extended hiatus. Everything indicates that Kazuya Minekura is determined to continue with her most beloved stories by fans.
