This
Saturday, the September issue of Kadokawa's Shōnen Ace magazine
published the final chapter of the manga Yō, Aquarist (also
known as What's Up, Aquarist?), the work of Yūya Kurokami and Karuna
Kanzaki. The third and final compilation volume will be
available on August 26.
A story
of redemption and hidden sensibility
The plot
follows Tetsuo, a young man with a tough appearance but a big
heart. After a summer festival, he finds two goldfish abandoned in a plastic
bag next to the trash. While trying to free them in a nearby river, he is
stopped by Kanade, a girl who introduces herself as an aquarist.
She proposes to take care of the fish instead of releasing them, but Tetsuo
soon discovers that keeping the goldfish alive is no easy task, and
that bonding with them could change his life.
The series
began serialization in August 2023 in Shōnen Ace.
Its second volume was published in November 2024, and the third
will put an end to this endearing story.
The
creators behind the success of Armed Girl's Machiavellism
Authors Kanzaki and Kurokami had
already worked together on the manga Armed Girl's Machiavellism,
which ran from March 2014 to June 2022. This work achieved great
popularity and was adapted into anime in April 2017. Although
Amazon's exclusive Anime Strike channel was shut down in 2018,
the series is still available through Amazon Prime and HIDIVE.
With Yō,
Aquarist, both authors demonstrate their versatility, offering a more
intimate and thoughtful story that, although brief, leaves an emotional mark on
their readers.
