During its panel at Anime NYC, publisher Dark Horse Comics confirmed that it has acquired the license for John Tarachine's manga Credits Roll Into the Sea (Umi ga Hashiru Endroll). Although a release date has not yet been revealed, the news has sparked great interest among international readers.

A story about grief and second chances

The play follows Umiko, a 65-year-old woman who is going through mourning after losing her husband. One day he decides to return to the cinema after decades, where he meets Kai, a young film student. Fascinated by the audience's reactions, Umiko gets carried away by the conversation with Kai, who senses her curiosity about the seventh art and encourages her to explore her own feelings. Thus begins Umiko's unexpected journey into the world of filmmaking.

Career and recognitions

Tarachine launched the manga in Akita Shoten's Mystery Bonita magazine in October 2020. So far, the publisher has published eight compilation volumes, the most recent being released on July 17. The story will come to its conclusion with the ninth volume.

The series has received multiple accolades: it topped the list of female readers in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022 guide and ranked number six in the 2023 edition. In addition, she was a finalist in the 15th Manga Taisho in 2022 and was nominated for the prestigious Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award in both its 27th and 29th editions.
