The official website of Koupen-chan, the short anime based on Rurutea's illustrations, revealed last Sunday the arrival of a new cast member. Renowned voice actress Nao Tōyama will play Mizuiro no Koupen-chan (light blue Koupen-chan), a small emperor penguin who has changed color and will eventually regain his original hue.

This adorable character made his debut in episode 20, aired on Sunday, and will also be present in episode 21, scheduled for August 24 at 5:30 p.m. (Spain).

An anime full of cuteness

Koupen-chan premiered on April 6 on TV Asahi and quickly won over audiences with its laid-back style and endearing characters. The main cast includes:

  • Ayaka Saitō as Koupen-chan and Enaga Yokoshima-san
  • Sachi Kokuryu as adult Penguin-san
  • Junji Majima as Adelie-san
  • Kazuya Ichijō as Polar Bear "willing to teach"

The team behind Koupen-chan

The production is in charge of the Lesprit studio, under the direction of Kyō Yatate (Bananya). The composition of the series is by Yoichi Kato (Yōkai Watch), while the music is the work of Akiyuki Tateyama (Laid-Back Camp). Hazumu Sakuta serves as chief director, with Hiroyuki Nemoto (Heaven's Design Team) as art director and Yoshio Harisaki (Haikyu!!) as assistant. In addition, Daiki Hachimaki (Tonari no Yōkai-san) is in charge of the sound direction and Sachiko Nishi (Shadows House) is in charge of the sound effects.

From social media to anime

The character of Koupen-chan was born in 2017 thanks to the illustrations shared by Rurutea on social networks. Since then, its popularity has grown tremendously, expanding into merchandise, collaborations, and now this endearing animated adaptation.
