The
official website of Koupen-chan, the short anime based on Rurutea's illustrations,
revealed last Sunday the arrival of a new cast member. Renowned voice
actress Nao Tōyama will play Mizuiro no Koupen-chan (light
blue Koupen-chan), a small emperor penguin who has changed color and will
eventually regain his original hue.
This
adorable character made his debut in episode 20, aired on Sunday, and will also
be present in episode 21, scheduled for August 24 at 5:30 p.m. (Spain).
An anime
full of cuteness
Koupen-chan premiered on April 6 on
TV Asahi and quickly won over audiences with its laid-back style and endearing
characters. The main cast includes:
- Ayaka Saitō as Koupen-chan and Enaga
Yokoshima-san
- Sachi Kokuryu as adult Penguin-san
- Junji
Majima as Adelie-san
- Kazuya Ichijō as Polar Bear

The team
behind Koupen-chan
The
production is in charge of the Lesprit studio, under the
direction of Kyō Yatate (Bananya). The composition of the
series is by Yoichi Kato (Yōkai Watch), while the music is the
work of Akiyuki Tateyama (Laid-Back Camp). Hazumu
Sakuta serves as chief director, with Hiroyuki Nemoto (Heaven's
Design Team) as art director and Yoshio Harisaki (Haikyu!!) as
assistant. In addition, Daiki Hachimaki (Tonari no Yōkai-san)
is in charge of the sound direction and Sachiko Nishi (Shadows
House) is in charge of the sound effects.
From
social media to anime
The
character of Koupen-chan was born in 2017 thanks to the
illustrations shared by Rurutea on social networks. Since then, its popularity
has grown tremendously, expanding into merchandise, collaborations,
and now this endearing animated adaptation.
