The
renowned sports manga author Mitsuru Adachi celebrates
more than half a century of career. To commemorate this milestone, the Re:Re:Re:TUNE YouTube
channel released a special music video focused on one of the author's first
hits: Miyuki.
Back to
the classics
Adachi's
career began in 1969 as an assistant to Isami Ishii, creator
of 750 Rider. Although Miyuki premiered in 1980,
more than a decade after the start of his career, it became his first manga
adapted into anime. The story follows student Masato and his
two love interests, both named Miyuki, one of whom turns out to be his
stepsister.
A
musical tribute
The
group H2O performed several themes for the 1983 anime series,
including the first ending theme "Omoide ga Ippai". This
track is the subject of the 55th anniversary music video, which
celebrates the play's lasting influence.
Miyuki's
career
The manga
was published in Shogakukan's Shonen Big Comic between
1980 and 1984, being collected in a total of 12 volumes. In addition to the
anime, the work received a film adaptation in 1983 and a television drama in
1986. Currently, neither the manga nor its adaptations are licensed in English.
