If you
thought shonen fans were intense, it's because you haven't messed with yuri purists.
The community can be super protective of their favorite stories, and the
creator of Kamiina Botan's manga just found out
the hard way. What began as a quiet afternoon surfing the internet, ended in a
monumental funa simply because the author came up with the
idea of giving love to illustrations that broke the sacred rules of the genre.
Internet
police strike again
The
disaster began when users noticed the artist's strange activity on Pixiv.
It turns out that the mangaka was consuming and interacting with adult
fanart created by his own followers. The problem? This explicit
content did not fit into the category of Girls Love. Seeing the
author enjoying material that wasn't about classic girl-girl romance or
exploring Sapphic relationships drove several readers crazy.
They began to accuse him of betraying the essence of the work and of diluting
the identity of the franchise with his personal tastes off the
desk.
I consider the original work of “Kamiina Botan” to be in the GL genre. Kamiina will continue to be classified as GL.

A
reality check and a lot of freedom
Faced with
such a virtual tantrum, the author had to go out and put out the fire, but he
did it in the most grounded way possible. In a super direct message, he
confirmed that the original story has always been and will continue to be
categorized as GL. He basically told them that his work is one thing and his
tastes on the internet are another. This controversy opened a
giant debate in the otaku community about creative
freedom and the right to privacy. Many argue that an artist can
consume whatever he or she wants without affecting the canon of his or her main
work, while the most offended continue to demand that creators remain strictly
faithful to the niche that feeds them.
