The school
comedy classic High School! Kimengumi, created by Motoei
Shinzawa, will return with a new anime adaptation that will premiere in
January 2026 within the renowned block Noitamine of Fuji
TV. The announcement was accompanied by a visual teaser and a presentation
music video that includes the iconic song “Ushiroyubi Sasare-gumi”, the
original opening theme of the series broadcast between 1985 and 1987.
The video,
in addition to revealing the first details of the project, confirms the return
of the song originally produced by Yasushi Akimoto, creator of
groups like Onyanko Club and AKB48. On this occasion, the new version is
performed by the voice actresses Haruka Shiraishi and Ikumi
Hasegawa.

School! Kimengumi it
is the second part of the saga Kimengumi (literally “The Funny
Faces Club”), created by Motoei Shinzawa. The first delivery, Sannen
Kimengumi, was published in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump between
1980 and 1982, while its continuation, High School! Kimengumi, was
serialized in the same magazine from April 1982 to July 1987.
The first anime adaptation aired between October 1985 and September 1987, with a total of 86 episodes. The new version seeks to revive the absurd humor and classic style of the 80s with a modern cast and new visual direction, maintaining the original spirit that made the series popular among generations of viewers.
