The phenomenon of Look Back does not stop. After conquering the world with his hit anime film, the acclaimed story one-shot of Tatsuki Fujimoto (creator of Chainsaw Man) will make the leap to real action. The editor Shihei Lin he officially announced that one is in production live-action movie scheduled to premiere in 2026, and the talent behind the scenes is world-class.
An Oscar director in charge
The big surprise of the announcement is the director: Hirokazu Kore-eda, winner of the Palme d'Or and nominated for an Oscar for Shoplifters (A family affair), will direct the adaptation. Kore-eda is known for his mastery of human dramas such as Monster and Broker. Production will be in charge of Daiju Koide (Shin Kamen Rider) under the seal K2Pictures.
First visuals and plot
Along with the news, two teaser images were revealed that capture the essence of the manga: a sample a Fujino and Kyomoto under the snow, and the other presents them working hard drawing manga in a room, recreating one of the most iconic vignettes of the original work.
The story follows two young girls with opposite personalities who connect through their shared passion for drawing manga, facing the joys and devastating tragedies that come with life and artistic creation.
