The ice
rink is getting ready for the big screen. Kadokawa announced
on Saturday that the acclaimed figure skating manga will have a film
adaptation, confirming that the Medalist film will be released
in 2027. This news was announced during a special screening event
at the Marunouchi Piccadilly in Tokyo.
The film
will tell the story set immediately after the end of the second season of
the anime, which will begin its regular broadcast on television on
January 25. In addition to the announcement of the film, the event revealed
a key new visual for the upcoming television season.

The
production of the franchise is still in the hands of the ENGI studio,
responsible for the first season broadcast in winter 2025 and distributed
worldwide by Disney+. The film will serve as a direct sequel,
expanding the protagonists' journey to the pinnacle of Olympic skating.

success of the manga
Tsurumaikada's original work, serialized
in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine since May
2020, has been a resounding success in both sales and specialized critics. The
manga has won prestigious awards such as:

Shogakukan Awards (2023).
- Best Overall Manga at the 48th
Kodansha Manga Awards (2024).
With volume
14 scheduled to release on January 22, the franchise is experiencing its best
moment.
