The most politically incorrect cat in manga arrives on television. It has been officially announced that the Chainsmoker Cat anime (known in Japan as Yanineko) will premiere in July 2026. The series will air across TOKYO MX and other networks, marking a surprising development given the content of the original work.

Along with the announcement, a visual showing the protagonist smoking on the balcony was revealed, as well as a promotional video that mixes vignettes from the manga with animated footage, culminating with the characteristic phrase: "Umee nya" (It's delicious, nya).

Chainsmoker Cat Anime Details

The animation production has been entrusted to Bibury Animation Studios. The direction is in charge of Taku Kimura, with series composition by Takashi Aoshima and character design by Riki Matsuura. The music will be composed by Keichi Suzuki.

Voice cast

To bring the titular degenerate cat to life, a versatile actress has been selected:

  • Yuko Natsuyoshi as Yanineko

Team reactions

Both the lead actress and the creators expressed their amazement at the fidelity of the adaptation:

Yuko Natsuyoshi (Voice of Yanineko):

"Yanineko is really dirty, but somehow she's still cute, which I find mysterious. The character casually crosses lines that no human should, so it's so terrible that it becomes funny."

Nyan Nyan Factory (Original Creator):

"When the scripts and character designs came in, I was surprised to see that it was being adapted exactly as it was... The art I've already seen, as well as the opening and closing songs, are of an extremely high quality."
