Time to wait: The Detective Is Already Dead moves its premiere to October

Patience is today's key word. The original plans looked perfect for this summer, but things have just taken a turn in the agenda. This Sunday, the production committee of The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mo, Shindeiru) dropped a bucket of cold water mixed with excellent news. On the one hand, they released the first promotional and visual preview of their second season; on the other, they confirmed that the release will no longer be in July, moving its official release date to October 2026. And as if that were not enough, the franchise announced its jump to consoles with a video game for Nintendo Switch on the way.

The voices behind the mystery and the mysterious Noches

If you took a look at the new promotional video, you were surely frozen in the last seconds. The clip introduces Noches, a totally new character who wears a maid's outfit and is the spitting image of the detective we thought was dead. The ENGI studio brings back almost all of its main cast, adding this double role that will blow our minds. Check out who is in charge of the microphones:

  • Saki Miyashita as Siesta / Nights

Mii in BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense and Kisaragi in Kantai Collection.

  • Ayana Taketatsu as Nagisa Natsunagi

Nino Nakano in The Quintessential Quintuplets and Azusa Nakano in K-ON!.

  • Kanon Takao as Yui Saikawa

Iris in Konosuba and Rit in Banished from the Hero's Party.

  • Arata Nagai as Kimihiko Kimizuka and Saho Shirasu as Charlotte Arisaka Anderson.

The duo that resumes their main roles to continue solving the impossible crimes left pending by the legendary detective.

From direct-to-print success to console controls

The whole universe that Nigoju (writer) and Umibozu (illustrator) built in their light novel does not stop growing. Since 2019, the story has broken it in sales, getting a first season in 2021 and a manga that only concluded in 2023. Now, the stakes are up a notch. The development of the game for the Nintendo console is in the hands of Taito Games, although they still have their mouths shut about what genre it will be or what exactly it will be about. What is a fact is that director Manabu Kurihara is once again taking the reins of animation, backed by scripts by Deko Akao and designs by Yosuke Ito.

What exactly is this story of detectives and shootings about?

Imagine you're a trouble magnet. That's Kimihiko Kimizuka, an average high school student who, after a plane hijacking, ends up being the assistant of a brilliant and enigmatic detective named Siesta. Together they travel the world dismantling secret organizations and fighting monsters in missions full of mystery and action. The problem begins when Siesta dies tragically. Shattered, Kimihiko tries to return to a normal life, but the past refuses to let go. With the help of new friends, she must continue to solve crimes while honoring her mentor's legacy. Now, with the appearance of Noches (who looks identical to her), the board is turned upside down again.
