been praying to Kinoko Nasu for years to finally release more information about
this adaptation, your prayers have been answered. The official X account for
the Mahoutsukai no Yoru anime film (also known on this side of
the pond as Witch on the Holy Night) has just released a very
important update. It was confirmed that this little gem, produced by the animation
studio with an unlimited budget ufotable, will land in Japanese
theaters at some point in 2026.

foundations of the Nasuverse shining with top-notch animation
For the
band that is just entering this universe, this story is no small thing. Mahoutsukai
no Yoru originally came out as a visual novel for PC in April 2012 and
became a mainstay of the Nasuverse, basically functioning as a
prequel to the events of Tsukihime. After receiving remasters for
Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Steam between 2022 and 2023, seeing this
work adapted with the brutal visual quality and magical choreographies that
characterize ufotable is the golden dream of any otaku.
We still
need to confirm the exact month and release a trailer in shape, but knowing
that the project is on the right track and that the original cast is on board
is enough to keep the hype sky-high.
Synopsis
of Mahoutsukai no Yoru
At the end
of the 1980s, in the middle of Japan's golden age, there is a rumor about an
old mansion on top of a hill where two witches supposedly live. Aoko Aozaki, a
high school student who has just entered the complex world of modern sorcery
after unexpectedly inheriting her family's duty, lives in this house with Alice
Kuonji, a stoic young woman and a pure witch by birth. The quiet and secret
life of both collides with the normal world when Soujuurou Shizuki, an ordinary
boy who has just moved from the countryside to the city, discovers by accident
the true nature of the girls. From that moment on, the three will be forced to
live together while dealing with supernatural threats and the hidden mysteries
of the city of Misaki.
