More than a decade after the end of mainstream
serialization, Maid-sama! returns to the pages of LaLa. Hiro
Fujiwara will publish a new special chapter of the series in the
September issue of Hakusensha's LaLa magazine, scheduled to
hit retail outlets on July 24, 2026.
The announcement appeared in the magazine's
August issue and it's not the first time Fujiwara has returned to the series
after its conclusion in 2013: he had already published a previous special
chapter in the February 2025 issue of LaLa DX magazine. This
new one-shot in LaLa confirms a pattern of occasional returns
to the world and characters that defined manga during its years of
serialization.
The appearance of the ad in a different edition
than usual from previous specials suggests that Fujiwara keeps his link to the
story active even as he moves forward with new projects. Since February 2025,
the author has serialized Neko ni Wagamama in LaLa DX, with
the first collected volume released in October of that year. The return to
Maid-sama! In this context she talks about a creator who has not abandoned her
most beloved characters.
About Maid-sama!
Maid-sama! (Kaichou wa Maid-sama!) is a manga by Hiro
Fujiwara that was serialized in Hakusensha's LaLa magazine
from 2006 to 2013, collected in eighteen volumes plus an additional volume
published in August 2018. The story follows Misaki Ayuzawa, a high
school student council president who hides her part-time job in a maid
cafeteria, and Takumi Usui, the school's most popular student who
discovers that secret. The series received an anime adaptation in 2010 that
brought it to a sizable international audience and remains the most common
entry point for those discovering the story for the first time.
