The anime industry has been
terrified for months about the imminent technological advance, but someone has
just thrown the best possible reverse card. The legendary seiyuu
Daisuke Namikawa, known worldwide for voicing Choso in the successful Jujutsu
Kaisen franchise, has just officially launched a dialogue generation
service powered by an artificial intelligence trained
exclusively on its own vocal cords.
Namikawa's surprise decision was not born
simply out of love for innovation, but out of genuine weariness. Tired of
seeing how the internet is flooded with identity theft and unauthorized vocal
clones of his work, the actor decided to fight fire with fire. Their main goal
is to commercialize their voice one hundred percent legally to protect
their copyrights, ensure a fair distribution of profits and
guarantee their own economic stability in the face of an uncertain future.
Basically, he found the perfect way to monetize his own cyber replacement.
To understand the tremendous weight of this
move, it should be remembered that Namikawa was one of the main faces of the
"No More Unauthorized Generative AI" initiative in early 2024, which
sought to curb the non-consensual use of Japanese actors in generative models.
However, seeing that the technological wave was inevitable, he opted for a
completely proactive approach. By creating an official and licensed
alternative, any creative or company interested in using the lethal tone of
iconic characters such as Hisoka in Hunter x Hunter, Ulquiorra
Cifer in Bleach, Toru Oikawa in Haikyu!! or
Eustass Kid in One Piece, will be able to do so on their own terms
and knowing that the money will go directly into the pockets of the original
performer.
