The production committee behind
the successful animated adaptation of Mob Psycho 100 decided
to go all out to celebrate its first decade of existence. During the special
panel "Reunion" held this weekend in Saitama Prefecture, the franchise surprised
thousands of attendees with the surprise premiere of a completely unreleased
animated short. Fortunately for fans in the West, this new footage has already
been released online with official English subtitles.
The best news about this unexpected return is
that it is not a simple work for hire to meet the date. Yuzuru
Tachikawa himself gladly resumed the director's chair, also taking
charge of the script writing and storyboards of this episode
that returns us to the always chaotic Spirit Consultation Office. At his side,
the legendary Yoshimichi Kameda returned as animation director
and character designer, who also developed a commemorative illustration and
excitedly confirmed that they managed to bring together a large part of the
original technical team to bring this small tribute to life.
Seeing Shigeo, Reigen, Dimple and Tome arguing
on screen again is a direct blow to nostalgia for those who follow the work of
mangaka ONE from its remote origins in 2012. This original
manga laid the foundations of an empire that masterfully closed its
third television season at the end of 2022, also boasting a handful of OVAs and
even a peculiar live-action series along the way. Exactly a
decade after the first episode captivated the industry with its overwhelming
visual style and heartfelt narrative, this new footage proves that the
chemistry of these misfits is still as valid as the first day.
