The
paranoia, betrayals and high-tension mind games are far from over. Just one day
after episode 26 put an end to half a year of uninterrupted broadcasting, the
official page of the animated adaptation of Liar Game dropped the
bombshell that everyone was waiting for: the series will have a second season.
The
announcement came with promotional art crafted by character designer Kei
Tsuchiya to celebrate the news. The main voice cast was quick to react with
great enthusiasm to this return. Actress Saya Hitomi, who plays Nao Kanzaki,
welcomed the opportunity to step back into the protagonist's shoes, while Takeo
Otsuka, the voice behind the brilliant Shinichi Akiyama, promised intense
recording sessions to reflect the psychological battles ahead. They were joined
by comments from You Taichi in the role of Yuji Fukunaga and Natsuki Hanae as
the ruthless Norihiko Yokoya, who anticipated that the upcoming games will be
loaded with memorable moments.
The project
will maintain the solid quality that characterized the first installment under
the production of the renowned Madhouse studio. Yuzo Sato will continue
to direct the series with Asami Kawano, while Tatsuhiko Urahata will continue
to oversee the composition and scripts of the series. For his part, Kisuke
Koizumi will be in charge of the sound direction to sustain that claustrophobic
and suspenseful atmosphere that conquered viewers during the two continuous
blocks broadcast since April.
About
Liar Game
Born from
the mind of mangaka Shinobu Kaitani, author of other acclaimed works
such as One Outs, the original Liar Game manga began publication
in the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2005 and
concluded in 2015 with 19 compilation volumes. The work made a brief comeback
in 2026 with the miniseries Liar Game: The Last Game, which will close
the franchise on paper with a twentieth compilation volume. Before making the
leap to anime, the story had already inspired successful adaptations in
live-action television series, films and even a play.
The plot
follows in the footsteps of Nao Kanzaki, a ridiculously honest college student
who overnight receives a suitcase with about $650,000 (USD) and an invitation
to participate in the Liar Game. This underground tournament forces
participants to cheat and steal from each other so as not to be in debt for
life. Cornered by naivety, Nao turns to Shinichi Akiyama, a brilliant ex-phony
fresh out of prison, forming an unlikely duo to survive the deadly traps of
their opponents.
